Wonderful Winter at Black Butte Ranch

Hi, everyone!

Greetings from Black Butte Ranch, where the soft white blanket of winter has spread across the peaks and pines.

Wonderful Winter

We love winter here in Central Oregon, for obvious reasons. The views are breathtaking, the ski hills are open for business, and there's a remarkable silence and stillness to the world, especially the forests. There's nothing like grabbing your snowshoes or cross-country skis and heading out into the woods on a crisp morning. It's nothing less than magical!

On the more social side of things, though, winter brings the holiday season, which is always brimming with events at the Ranch and beyond. Between the Ranch's Turkey Trot Fun Run and Christmas tree lighting, the Sisters Christmas Parade, and regularly testing our willpower at a variety of holiday buffets, it's been a whirlwind couple of months. If you've never spent the holidays at Black Butte Ranch, you'll have to make plans to visit us next year. It's endless fun in a truly special setting. One of our all-time favorite events is the Ranch's Winter Snowshoeing Adventure, which takes place on multiple nights in late December. A pleasant showshoe hike to a bonfire in the woods is capped off by cocoa and s'mores. It's an unbeatable combination of goodnesses.

Great Times Ahead

But, of course, the local fun doesn’t stop once the last straggler leaves your New Years party! We've got our eye on a few happenings for January/February. First is the Sisters Folk Festival Winter Concert Series. Sisters Folk Fest has three top-notch acoustic line-ups for you this winter: Martin Sexton (1/25), Rob Ickes & Trey Hensley with the Molly Tuttle Band (2/21), and singer-songwriters Rose Cousins and Caitlin Canty (3/23). All shows at Sisters High at 7pm, with series passes and individual show tix available.

The other event on our radar is the uproarious Hoodoo (Ski Area) Winter Carnival, on February 11. The daylong celebration truly offers something for everyone. And I mean everyone: ax throwing, frisbee golf, musical chairs, three-legged and snow tube races, hoola-hooping, pie gobbling, javelins, archery, and snow sculptures! And, of course, bingo. Amazing! Hoodoo is right up the road from the Ranch, so get in touch with Black Butte Vacations as soon as you can to line up your rental.

Valentine's Day is fast approaching. For many, that realization induces waves of panic. How could you possibly thank that sweet someone for tolerating you so sweetly? There are many ways to screw this up, of course. One sure-fire way not to is to book a stay with us at Black Butte Vacations. Hottubs, cozy fireplaces, midnight snowshoeing, a luxurious dinner at the lodge. You owe it to your relationship. Or you can roll the dice on that chocolate rose and Garfield card from Walgreens. Good luck, friend!

This brings us to our featured activity. As mentioned, Hoodoo Ski Area is only 13 miles west of the Ranch. But did you know Hoodoo is Central Oregon's only mountain for night riding? Cue the romantic music! Picture you and your sweetheart carving the delicate moonlit powder, the stars twinkling above. It's truly a remarkable experience – at times it will feel like you have the whole mountain to yourselves. So beat the crowds and up the ambiance! Nightskiing runs from 3:30-9 on Fridays and Saturdays. Pencil it in as part of your Black Butte Vacation. Of course, singles and families can nightski, too. But 'tis the season for romance!

See You Soon!

That’s all for now! If you’re coming out this way for a visit, check in with us soon to secure the rental that best fits your group size, needs, and the activities and facilities you’re interested in. Remember, we’re out of the high season now, so rental dates are more flexible, making it easier to match a rental to your schedule.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Best wishes,

Your Friends at Black Butte Vacations
